A heavy truck is any motor vehicle with a net vehicle weight of more than 5,000 lbs. The registration is based on a declared gross vehicle weight (GVW) made by the owner. Generally, heavy trucks are used for carrying goods (pick-up truck) or equipped with a connective device for drawing a fifth wheel trailer (truck tractor/semi). Trailers must be registered separately.
Registrations for trucks weighing between 5,000 and 7,999 lbs. expire on the first registered owners birthday. As long as you do not have any stops/holds or need to show proof of insurance for your registration, you can renew online.
