Customers must renew their Florida Driver License or ID card every four (4) to eight (8) years. Those with a driver license can renew up to 18 months in advance of expiration. ID Cards and CDLs with HazMat endorsement can be renewed up to 12 months prior to expiration.

Florida Driver License or ID Card renewal must be completed in-person if:
  • You have changed your name since your last renewal (ex. by marriage or divorce)
  • Your last renewal was completed online or by mail
  • Your driver license has the word “Temporary” on it or need to change your current immigration status
  • Your license has been expired more than 12 months

If one of these applies to you, you will need to come into one of our offices with the required documents to renew your license. If your commercial driver license has been expired more than one year, full knowledge and skills retesting will be required.

If none of these apply, you should be able to renew your license or ID card online through the FLHSMV’s MyDMV Portal.

Customers can replace their driver license or ID card prior to its expiration if the credential lost, stolen, or changes are needed. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles recommends reporting a stolen or lost Driver License or ID card to authorities to protect against Identity Theft.

Customers can replace a lost or stolen credential online using the FLHSMV’s MyDMV Portal. Customers replacing their credential online should receive the new one in the mail within 1-3 weeks.

You may also come into one of our offices to have your credential replaced.

If the credential is stolen:
  • Submit a police report, victim’s rights card, or case number on an official police document indicating your license or identification card was stolen.
  • Replacement fee is $6.25.
  • If changes need to be made to the information (name, address etc.) on the stolen card, the full $31.25 replacement fee is due and required documentation must be presented.
If the credential is lost:

The cost for a duplicate license is $31.25.

If there is an address or name change needed, additional documents will be required. See details below.

Driver License and ID Card address changes may be eligible for online processing through the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Portal.

Current Florida residents may also make Driver License and ID Card address changes at one of our offices. Prior to coming into a service center and bring the required documentation with them.

Name changes first must be made with the Federal Social Security Administration (SSA). 24 hours after updating with SSA, customers may come into a tax collector’s office with the required documentation to change the name on their Driver License or ID Card.
