Initial application

The Concealed Weapon Intake System (CWIS) allows an applicant to complete the entire CWL application within Lee County, which is then sent to Tallahassee. 

You must make an appointment at our Downtown Fort Myers office on Thompson Street to obtain a Concealed Weapon License. For alternatives for submitting application, visit the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

When you arrive for your appointment, you will check in and be directed to a station where you will fill out an online application form, have your fingerprints taken electronically, and your picture taken for the license image.

Follow these steps to obtain your license:

  1. Determine your Eligibility using the CWL Eligibility Online Tool
  2. Provide a valid Picture ID

Acceptable forms of a picture ID include:
  • Driver License
  • State Identification Card
  • U.S Passport
  • U.S Active Duty/Retiree/Reserve Military ID Card
  • U.S. Tribal or Bureau of Indian Affairs ID card
  • Foreign Passport with appropriate immigration documents
  • An ID Card issued by U.S. Department of Justice, Immigration & Naturalization Service
3. Provide Training Documents or Certificate of Firearm Proficiency Florida law requires you to submit proof of competency with a firearm to qualify for a concealed weapon license. Check the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services for a list of acceptable firearms training documentation.

4. Additional Documents

You will need additional documents and information if any of the below apply:

  • If you have ever been arrested, you must bring a certified court document reflecting the final disposition of the charge(s) filed against you
  • If you were born outside of the United States, or if you are a permanent legal resident alien, you must bring official documentation that confirms your citizenship status
Once the original application is submitted, it will be reviewed by the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FLDACS). If approved, the Department will mail the license directly to the customer. You can check the status of your application on the FLDACS site.
