When ownership changes on a vehicle less than 20 calendar years old (model year 2011 or newer), the seller must complete the title for transfer and disclose the current mileage at the time of sale.
When ownership changes on a vehicle more than 20 years old (or having a model year of 2010 or older), the mileage is eligible for odometer exemption.
If the mileage is not being recorded, the word EXEMPT should be written in the odometer disclosure area of the title or application for title.
The following types of vehicles are exempt from odometer reading requirements:
